Purpose

The primary purpose of MakeLV's OpenStack implementation is for the intellectual edification of MakeLV's membership, but secondarily, as seems appropriate, we will provide access to OpenStack's resources outside the membership perhaps as a fund-raiser for developers and others interested in working in such an environment, but not concerned with high availability.

Software

Basically, we've chosen to start with OpenStack Folsom built on top of Ubuntu LTS with the Ubuntu Cloud Archive to give access to Folsom. When Grizzly comes out, we should expect to upgrade to that. Sticking to LTS for now allows us to focus on OpenStack rather than the underlying

* Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
* Ubuntu Cloud Archive
* OpenStack 2012.2 Folsom

Hardware

We are looking to have an OpenStack implementation comparable to what one might find in a data center. We are NOT setting up a development environment environment on minimal hardware. As a result, we need to build up some higher level server and network hardware to load various pieces of this upon.

Have

We currently have three Dell tower servers. Another with a broken backplane and then a 5th server that I haven't identified yet.

Need

Highspeed level 3 switch or even better a switch chassis with some gigabit ethernet ports.
