So, we talked a bit about rail guns last night and then I find
this from Make Magazine in my inbox: <a

This naturally leads to could we build something like that to
launch rockets by railgun instead of igniters. This would, of
course, then reduce the need to keep buying those little hobby
rocket motors making it more accessible to have kids
participate over and over again despite economic means. We
basically could get rid of the consumables. Plus, the awesome
factor of rail guns comes into play, but this includes kids
getting to not only watch, but participate by building a rail
gun rocket and see their creation fly.

So, what are the problems that must be overcome?
