It is cheap, but often warped and when we did this once, the finished product lacked stability. For the labor involved, I'd rather get some plans from Family Handyman or the like and build some simple benches out of new wood. Because of the rough floors, it would be very wise to equip any benches built with T-nuts and leveling bolts in the bottom of each leg.
He acquired some very nice pallets with some quality wood. The first project in the space was similar to that and the problem was that most of the wood we acquired was rough. There result is in the corner where the a/c room meets the hallway wall. It is covered in stuff. Anyway, the lesson is, get pallets with good wood on them or they'll just splinter and we ended up using a sawzall to chop through the nails between the boards rather than pry the boards up because that caused the boards to split and splinter resulting in little useful wood.

So while at the space tonight I noticed a lack of work surfaces and was brainstorming some methods to try and fix that on the cheap.

Did some googling and came across this.

http://www.survivefrance.com/profiles/blogs/making-a-table-from-discarded-pallets
